PostPosted: Fri Jul 06, 2012 10:46 am    Post subject: 1st time in many years …

Sorry for the delay in writing this. The 4th of July brought with it plans that took me and my family out of town. Also, writing this from a Blackberry was just not going to happen.

Well I spent the balance of Friday night (the 29th) going through a Promaster and an FS7 I recently acquired. Rebuilt both front to back save the HPR’s (remember this as it bite’s me in the a$$ later). Got both up running and eye-balled to speed for the following day’s festivities. Pre-loaded the family SUV for an early-ish departure. The field is about a 35 minute drive from the house and play starts at 10 am. Plus I had to stop at Wally world on the way to pick up snacks, ice and drinks.

The field we were playing at is known as Hurricane paintball in Palm Bay, Florida. I had played here when it was first opened and right before I left the sport on my extended sabbatical. The field provides a large combination of most varieties of paintball. The field is 80-100 acres approximately and is located well off the beaten path. The land is owned by the City and then leased to a Sub-contractor, thus the rules and their enforcement is better than most. This was not always the case in the past when I played there (I have played there through 2 of the 3 different Sub-contractors). Anyway, there are 3 main separations to the fields. Main field is roughly 60 acres and has multiple areas that can be sub-divided for smaller games with lots of man-made and natural obstacles. There is a smaller field (approx 1/2 – 3/4 acre square) with no woods just man-made obstacles (like a speed ball field but no inflatable’s) and then there is a tourney field, (which was not aired up on Saturday).

Anyway my son and I arrive, set-up, pay and prep for the first game. There is approximately 25 on hand for the first game. The first 3 games go very well both markers doing their jobs. The start of the 4th game and the FS starts venting out the barrel. No biggie, go back to car, change some o-rings and then blam air is now venting out the back of the marker by the lock pin. Change some more o-rings and still no change. Spend an hour tearing down the entire marker, find a stripped screw in the rear power tube block and think well this marker is done until I get home and repair that. So FS7 goes back in bag. So now I have lost about 2 hours fussing with the FS7. Not 10 minutes later my son walks up and says his gun is leaking. (Yay, right). The 2-ltr is venting out the bottom, no biggie. Swap in the factory HPR and re-chrono and 2 games later he comes back with another leak via HPR. Swap in the CP from the FS7 (dialed way down) and that gets through 3 more games then fails. So then I go get my son a rental and resign myself to taking pictures and helping him while he plays. In all the first day was painful for me but my son had a great time.

So early Saturday night I decide we will give it another go on Sunday. By this time I had rebuilt not only all 3 HPRs, but the LPRs as well. Even though I re-drilled & tapped the stripped screw and widened the block for the larger screw, I still had not solved the FS7 leak out the back of the body by the take down pin (I still haven’t as of writing this today, though I am pretty sure the #7 o-ring on the bolt is the culprit). Anyway we are back at the field on Sunday and play until closing with not a single marker failure (did have to tighten one rear ram screw on the PM, but it was seeing a lot of activity/ vibes so no biggie there.) I didn’t take a single picture on Sunday so all the pics are from Saturday, not that I didn’t have the camera, just that I was more focused on playing. My son played great as a back-man while I hustled my aged body around up front.
My son took a one-on-top-of-another triple tap on his back and I thought that this might end his day. The concession lady saw this happen and gave him some ice and a chest protector gratis. We sat out a round and he heard the call for the next game, I asked about the chest protector and he said he didn’t need it and that next time he would position himself better. (This was a true, 'That's my boy!' moment.) So I guess he now officially has the bug and also realizes that when you are the last man against four it is sometimes better to capitulate (atleast until he is a little older).

All in all, Sunday made up for Saturday’s trials and tribulations. Though as of writing this I have 2 PM’s (a standard and a Lasoya, I STILL haven’t heard back on the 3rd PM I was looking at) fully rebuilt and ready to go for Saturday (tomorrow). As for the FS7, I just don’t know, but as I have time I will tinker with it and check with the guys on here for guidance. I have never been super knowledgeable about the FS platform. Though I now remember why I have shied away from spool valves as they can be finicky to say the least. I just sent my ‘borg out to be ano’d so once it is back I will have a rock solid back up.

Maloneoni – I have changed that son-of-a-b^&*%, #7 o-ring 6 times to no avail. I have also changed every drive train o-ring 3-4 times and every other o-ring a minimum of two times. I may end up capitulating and sending it to you. I guess I do not have the patience I used too, LOL…

Thanks to all who read this....

Please note, it is always, ALWAYS important to check your regs prior to playing.... Rebuilding a reg in the heat, the direct sun, on a tail gate just doesn't give me the warm fuzzy it should anymore, LOL ...

Glad your kid had a good time and is turning into a true baller taking that hit combo and trucking along. I have done the same after a throat shot when most thought I should sit out.

The FS7 out the back could be a few different things, I assume it isnt also leaking down the barrel right now? Im doing a complete teardown and clean/lube of the FSP tonight so I will see if I get any ideas what it could be while Im in there tonight.

Is it leaking from where the pin goes or from around the cylinder?

Glad you guys got in some good paintball. I hate the days where nothing is working right.

Excellent, glad to hear your boy took to it. Mine is truly addicted as well.

nothing beats a bad day at the field with a good one with no gun problems. i bring minimum 6 guns from pump(halfblock sniper) and mech(Mag) with 4-6 electros that i either want to use, want to test out, or haven't used in the longest time. but when you have that problem child that you want to use, been dying to use and everytime you use it, it just doesn't want to work it bugs the ever-living poopie out of you. my Frostbite is like that.

You are sooo right. The AB FS will be here soon, I just hope the bitchiness stays w/ the FS7, LOL ...

Playing again in the morning... using 2 PM's

Do you have a spare valve tip to bore out for the HR1 in the ABFS?

I coveted that ABFS for weeks and weeks. I am glad it is going to a good home.

I do not have any spare parts for an FS of any make, but if I have to I will scavenge the FS7.

I am sure there are a few people with spare valve tips. Hell, I might even have one.

Glad to hear you're back on the field and you and your son had a good time. It's painful to hear about Freestyle problems because, honestly, I've been there before at the field. For whatever reason, the marker works fine at home, but when you hit the field and play a few games, orings swell, lube deteriorates or whatever happens and you're basically left with a paper weight.

I can't wait to take my son balling too. He's 5 right now so it's a bit early, but I think he'll like it when he's ready.

Oh, and I'm hoping you can get that ABFS running solid and rock it at a field soon. I've pm'd Martix a few times about that one myself.
