Okay, I saw the question again today about lubrication for your pneumatic components. I did some brief research - and what I found indicates that petroleum based oils are more susceptible to severe temperature and chemical resistance changes.

YES, petroleum is a substance that nitrile buna (aka "Buna-N") o-rings work well with. However, that's in a clean environment. Petroleum-based lubricants, by value of their nature, attract and hold dust and dirt significantly more than silicone or synthetic greases do. That's important here, because Buna o-rings have significantly less resistance to abrasion and harsh treatment than natural rubber o-rings do - get that grease dirty enough, and you might as well just rub your o-rings down with sandpaper.

If you're using an o-ring with low nitrile content (i.e a primarily natural rubber o-ring), the petroleum-based lubricants will literally dissolve it over a relatively short span of time.

What lubricant should I use?

"Teflon or Silicon spray lubricants are the recommended types of lubrication for the bolt area of the main housing. Lithium grease is recommended for lubricating the regulator pistons, and the cylinder assembly. BE SURE IT IS LITHIUM GREASE AND NOT AXLE GREASE."

Does this sound familar? Maybe not.. heh, because it's STRAIGHT OUT OF THE B2K3 MANUAL! That last line might be a bit misleading; 'lithium grease' and 'white lithium grease' are *NOT* the same thing - lithium grease is a silicon based lubricant; white lithium is a petroleum based lube.

Clear lithium (http://www.usahardware.com/inet/shop/item/4140/icn/20-055517/crc_chemicals/sl3311.htm) is what ICD uses at the factory.

Dow33, Dow55 fall into this category as well.

b) an appropriate synthetic lubricant - superlube (http://www.super-lube.com/) is a good one, but bear in mind - a synthetic lubricant is only a petroleum-based one that has been highly refined.

c) There are others out there that I'm not sure where they'd fit in here.. Slick Honey is one of the ones that's gotten quite popular lately.

Why shouldn't I use white lithium?

Two good reasons. First, since it's a petroleum-based lubricant, it'll collect dust and dirt faster. Second, because it's a petroleum based lubricant, it has a lower operating temperature range - below -20*, it'll gunk up something fierce - same story if you're playing in greater than 80* temperatures. That 'gunking up' is bad because it'll reduce your cycling rates, in extreme cases, to the point that your marker won't work for crap.

That's the long and short of it. Got questions? Ask away.

Oils are a strict NO.. they can foul the solenoid too easily. Use a silicon or synthetic grease. Smile

ok ive never seen a warning before about white lithium grease, and it was something like 83* when i was playing today. i couldnt get my bko shooting over 240 fps, so is this a result of using white lithium grease or do i have another problem?
