You don't need to cover the hole... Just teflon tape the gauge in... That's where the leak is more then likely occuring.. if it's leaking out that hole.. u need a new gauge or block it off

a new gauge is cheap too, like $5-10.

Maybe my current valve just needs lube or a new oring ? is that possible ? should i crack it open and have a looksie ?

u can do that but most ppl woudl just suggest a new valve anyway.

back on topic...I know, such a drag!
Even a stock Bushmaster shouldn't be a gas hog. Even before mods you should still get 900 balls or so out of a 68/3000.

not really, b2ks are kinda known for being gass hogs. with ups they are no longer gas hogs if u balance ur regs and set everything up rite

Won't do anything to lube your stock valve or replace the o-ring. The the inlet hole that gets you. Buy an aftermarket valve to drop the pressure down.
