What do you do to celebrate the holdiays? You know, that one thing that you do every year that let's you know that it is in fact, Christmas time?

I cook very poorly, but I can bake like nobody's business. So, every year, I do my take on a traditional Hungarian coffee cake. I make two a year, and both on Christmas. It's my thing, and noone can touch it until it's on the table. That, and I try to watch "It's a Wonderful Life"

How about you guys?

Hungarian coffee cake sounds delishousss. I usually go to Chicago and visit my crazy greek relatives and eat entirely too much, or go out east to Pittsburgh (where I am now) and hang out with my Aunt / Cousins who are less crazy greeks, and still eat entirely too much food. Besides that I usually watch the Christmas Story marathon until I can't take it any more, and sleep a lot =)

Dub are you Hungarian? I'm half Hun.

At any rate, we always go to a movie on Christmas day because we've always lived so far from family. After presents what else is there to do? This year however we will go to see my parents and sister and bro-in-law on Christmas day. We will save the movie for Monday.

We also open a present on Christmas Eve.

Other than that, not much else for tradition. We don't even have a traditional meal. Infact it took us an hour to figure out what to have for dinner and we decided on biscuits and soup. Pretty non-traditional.

Y'all have a Merry Christmas.

Got a few Dungeness crabs yesterday at the fish market. It's not so much family tradition as it is local tradition to have crab on Christmas around here. The season opener was a couple weeks ago so all the crabbies have been coming up fat and happy* in the pots.

And with all the Scandinavians around here, I just think it's lucky that my extended family doesn't do the other local holiday tradition of having lutefisk and pickled herring. (shudders)

*I'm sure they're not happy, but it just sounds better to eat something that's happy

well, i like to go out and visit my friends, regardless of gift giving or not. if i can spend part of the day, talking, enjoying the day(playing with their kids toys :P), then that's more than enough. generally don't cook dinner, and just go over to extended families for dinner. always put up the cards we get from people over doors or currently the entertainment center, framing the TV.

try to watch traditional Christmas movies up and to the day like: Diehard, and Silent Night, Deadly Night(first one is real, the second one is a joke).

sometimes, open a gift on Christmas Eve, but not always. my girlfriend is more into the holiday spirit, so while i have my traditions, its more of beginning new ones(we've been together for 19 months and counting) together.

All of mine are pretty traditional traditions. Open presents Christmas morning, blah blah blah.

We do make stocking ever year. The old ones get saved, and the new ones go over the fireplace. Mine was rabbit fur this year.

We always go to my Aunt and Uncle's house in Oakland on Christmas Eve. We usually go to Christmas Mass at midnight, but with Abbie, we will be going in the morning.

I was threatening to bring lutefisk to my mom's Thanksgiving dinner.
