christmas of 97 i got 2 gift certifacates to play at my local field. there was a tiny speedball field made from pallets, barrels, and spools and there was a small woodsball field with a few manmade bunkers scattered through it. I went with my best friend josh(we still play together) and set out to conquer the world. Now we had a gameplan to cover each others flanks but when the paint started flying we just hugged the earth and fired wildly into the distance. The best laid plans.... Neither of us shot anyone out that day but we would return many more times. I still look back at that simple field with fondness. Sadly in the spring of 03 i think that field shut down when someone raised their mask to wipe the lens and left missing one eye. it was an unfortunate accident that could have been avoided. so always remember "Safety First"

Summer of '92 at the original Challenge Park. (which is CPX now) Went with 4 of my best friends for a birthday party. We played with rental Trracers and split a case (2400rnds) 4 ways and thought it was pretty much the best thing ever.

I remember my. Dad bought me a brass eagle talon or some other cheap plastic pump, and we played in my back yard. It was a whim thing he did, and I was hooked. I was 12 or so.

After that I bought a spyder compact, and played renegade in my friends backyard for a year then I discover that there were actually places where you could go and play. The place was called fungunz, hence my username.

It was a magical place. It had an awesome pros op, the people were friendly, the staff was knowledgeable and fixed all my stuff. So I bought and sold guns there, worked part time (they were awesome, they let me work for parts cause I was 14) and let me fill pods for their team. I tried out for their factory team when I was 16 and barely made it.

Ended upu playing d3 for a little bit, got into the tourney culture, but then when the closed, and the next best place was run by total snobby a-holes. So I kinda gave up, and now I just collect guns and play rec.

turns out quite a few of us got into paintball in the same 3 year span.

I wonder if that has anything to do with our ICD fettish... around the time we were looking for something better, the ICD brand was high and mighty.

Back in 1990 (14yrs ole)Neighborhood woods across the street from my parents with a couple of neighbor hood kids who were older by a couple of years had a couple of splatmasters, we would play 2 on 2 with pool goggles like a few times a year since none of us had money to buy anything, we basically stole dimes and knickles and would save up enough money to buy a half dozen 10rnd tubes, this went on for that one summer, the other kids got girlfriends and cars. Then around 1994 the son who use to run a bmx shop called Ocean State BMX started buying boxs of painballs and empty them into one big jewelry box(company was a jewelry mfg then, that housed a small spot for the bmx side for the son) and selling them, a friend of mine just grabbed a couple of cheap semi's at the time and i played a couple of games with them. 1997 came and a couple guys from work reintroduced me to the sport and we all ordered spyder compacts from iisports, did everything we could to them, then started looking at tippmanns and icd. and ive been on and off again since then.

Probably around 2001 when I shot my first paintball gun, my cousin had a brass eagle walmart special and a jar full of paint. So we went to the side of his house and shot at a few things and a few weeks later I got my own walmart special and my sister got one too, she was proud of the fact that she got a red dot sight for hers, lol.

We didn't have masks, so we never shot eachother, just target practice at first, eventually I bought a mask and claimed my sisters gun when she got bored,

I got my brother and cousin into the sport and we played on my cousins land, and the arms race began, they bought brass eagle semis, so I bought a brass eagle Marauder to keep up, when that broke, I splurged and got an E99 and a revy, and we played on the land a few more times, untill we got kicked out cuz we accidently shot the house.

Eventually the summer of 02 came around and me and my brother got our friends to play renegade with us at a spot in some park in HB, eventually the cops found our spot and banned us, and I took a break untill 05 when I found SC Village and Mags..

you might say that. the B2Ks where being released by ICD. the "poor man's Angel", since no on ever thought that there would be a market for $1200+ guns, showbox shockers where still huge, complicated and not so good; and Rainmakers, well it was the only good BE product that never had the lovin that could have had.

Rocks back in chair: In a kind of Grandpaish voice."Oh let me see here...I believe it was 92.....no it had to be 93 and I was 16years of age. Back when you were just a thought in God's grand scheme of things." he continues as if the grandkids really care about his story. "The highschool youth boys sunday school teacher had this crazy idea to rent a box of 50,000 paintballs 18 paintball pumpguns for a full weekend. So we played all day Sat. and then all day Sun. until Sun. evening when we went to church smelling something awful. We hadn’t bathed since Sat. evening and as I remember it twere about 95 degrees outside.” Lol sorry. Just felt nostalgic and thought I would remember it like my Grandad would have.
Anyways. I don’t even know what kind of guns they were but they were un-regulated and hurt really bad. We didn’t even have full masks just goggles. There were two things I remember most. First my brother shot a guy from about ten feet away and the guy cried. So my brother let him shoot him point blank and it left a bruise about the size of a mini-basketball on his stomach. Second the Sunday school teacher shot me in the back of the ear from about 15ft away and it tore the bottom of my ear.

Man those were the days. I didn’t even know there were semi-autos I thought all the guns were pump.
Been a baller ever since.
