have you looked into a cascading scuba tank setup? It's what one of the local fields here does. they don't have a actual building on the property for theur equipment so they have a big trailer they haul out to the field every morning. They have about 12 upright tanks in there and run a few at a time on a cascade setup. They have a couple hundred players on any given day and nobody lacks for air.

if you had 3-4 shorty tanks on a cascade that might possibly accomplish your goal without needing a compressor. youd still need to make a trip to fill a scuba tank or two every now and then depending on your air demand. then if demand is even greater you could look at the high pressure compressor to keep your cascade system full. also with a cascade system kept full by the hp comp there would be no waitng that 1-2 mins for a fill, would fill much faster with tanks on hand full.

this system is employed at another field..the main one i play at. their hp comp fills the cascade first thing in the morning, takes about 30 mins or so. then there is air on demand when 20 players come off the field to fill at the same time...no waiting 1-2 mins for each person to fill wich eats a half hour or more of the day. with the cascade there is no waiting for the comp to catch up with demand. one can always add tanks to the cascade as needed to expand the system.

I was getting ready to recommend a cascade setup as well. I mean sure, if money was no option, I would love to have a compressor, but its just not economical. Scubas pretty much get the job done.

Ok now I can justify this. I have a small local field owner that I am speaking with that just has CO2 currently and didn't want to fork out the money for an HPA system. He is going to put a little investment my way if I can be there on Saturdays to fill the tanks. That is his only open play day. Sundays are just for private parties so they have to play with tippies and CO2. The only issue I have is my drill weekends he wouldn't have air but I had already mentioned it and he didn't seem to have a problem.

I have known this guy for a while so I think the time and money invested should be good.

I don't know who picked that one. Wink

Good to hear you found something that would work out and you're helping paintball in you area. I was about to suggest this other device for you. You know, because when you're in IT you don't get as much physical activity as you should.

On the subject of scubas, does anyone know about limitations for getting an old, used scuba fixed up? I just came into a scuba tank that was used for diving at some point. The regulator piece is gone, but I assume that it can be replaced. It is way out of hydro. It was due for hydro before I was born. There is a bit of rust on the outside of the tank where it has been bumped and the paint has fallen off.

Is it worth my time to take in to have it looked at? I will not be taking it to the dweebs at Sports Chalet. I will probably take it through my local field.

i have the top of the scuba tank. you cover shipping and its yours.

get a magnet and stick it to it. if its a steel tank, you are in good shape. aluminium dive tanks, like paintball tanks have a limited life, but are used cause of weight. if there are no major damage, and if any rust is just on the surface, it should pass. the best thing is to TALK to the dive shop, or even bring it in and let them tell you. don't send it blind. most dive shops(alright, just the one i go to) are willing to talk about the tanks and if they could even look at it, they can tell you if its worth it or not.

other than that, its a great score if you can use it. like i said, i have the valve, and all you would need is the scuba adapter(anywhere from $20-get it out the door to $50+ brand new).

Make sure there is no rust inside the tanks, no scuba shops will fill them if so.
