What i'm led to believe, they adjust the LCD contrast only.

After fiddling with the potentiometer you spoke of I find it only adjusts the contrast of the LCD display, turning it clockwise has the effect of dimming the LCD until it is blank and vice versa. no luck with it helping the eye problem.

When I look at my ICD eye diagram (WH9306 dated 4/02) it lists the emitter as PN# 1N6264 "Fairchild ifared Emitting diode"

Going to Fairchild Semicondutor's website reveals this is the metal cased diode with the glass lense(just like the diagram shows)

Also PN# QSD723 "Fairchild Photo Detector" Is not listed with Fairchild anymore however it is shown on the diagram with the same profile as the Black plastic one I have.

Yeah my old GS Flame had a set of 5mm eyes that had aluminum outter casings. I am unsure if the older boards are compatible with newer eyes. I have a set that will work with newer boards that I bought from radio shack. I won't be able to send it off to you though because I am leaving tomorrow for a work trip...

I think I paid a whopping $2.99 Canadian for them, so that might be something you might want to take a look at. Pickup two just in case you accidentally reverse the polarity... Confused

i just picked up 4 emitters and 4 receivers from allied electronics today...they were a whole whopping FREE. But cant figure out if they will work with this board or not

the more i mess with this the more that becomes clear.....but the more things get confusing:(

Ok, so I'm pretty sure I know wich side the emitter goes on and wich the reciever goes on.

Near as I can tell, the emitter is "Always on" if the marker is on. It's the Receiver that switches the system to on and off. if the eye sees IR light then it closes the circuit and the marker does not fire, if it does not see IR light(because it is blocked by a ball) then the circuit remains open and the marker fires.

Pretty simple, i have tested this teory manually by simply touching the wires of the recieve side together and I get no noid action and the message "ammo" on the LCD

At the same time, I can hook up a standard LED to the emitter side and get light from the diode, since this is not IR light it does nothing but verify a constant current on the emitter side and wich is the positive(anode)side and the negative(cathode)side.

The current I am getting on the emitter side is 4.8v(+/-.2v) wich is higher than what i understand the max operating voltage to be for these emitters. I can't figure out why the voltage is so high.

I have tested the emitters I have thanks to an old remote control sacrificing it'self for me. I get IR light using a digital camera to view it.

Any thoughts???

4.8v is what you need to supply the solenoid. It sounds to me like you have things resolved, but the voltage is a little bit iffy. That could be why ICD used the older style emitter/recievers.

well, maybe I'm making progress, but I wouldn't call it resolved....that's a pretty strong word to use at this point.

I would agree that ICD may have used the old metal can emitter because they could handle the higher voltage except the max forward voltage on the OE emitter is 1.7v or something like that. Wich is on par with most other emitters out there.

The max foward voltage of 1.7 volts is the foward biased voltage drop across the emmiter. It's actually the reading you should get across the emitter terminals when it's powered and working right. The rest of the 5V supply voltage would show up across a resiter in series with the emmiter output. The current would be limited by the same resistor in the board. If this current limiting resister was to fail (highly unlikely) the current could exced the emitters capabilities and you'd see full supply voltage over the emitter. i.e. 4.8V.

Your emmitter most likely would be toasted at that point. If your emmiter was toasted due to some other reason and it wasn't conducting any current, you would also see the full supply voltage across it. I think you have a bad emmiter.

I have to repair some eyes on one of my bushies and I'll be delving into this same thing. I need to source 3 mill eyes to work off of an LCD board. I also need to find 5 mill eyes that will work with a nox board. I'm not sure where to get them.

Hey Spittle, radio shack is now The Source here in Ontario, is that where you got your eyes?? I was under the impression they weren't dealing with small electronic components anymore......

Still testing...will get back to you when i have some results

do be aware that the chaos blue chips are setup for delay shot only. the only way you will know if it working right is if it fires really slow with the eyes on and no paint.

ive mixed sets of eyes forward and backwards with no problems.
