As the title says...is there a trick to getting the stock HPR and ASA off the X-mill bodies without damaging the reg? I want to keep the reg to have re-anno'd to match the eclipse and put the Hyper 2 on the x-mill

If you dont own one already go out and pick up a strap wrench. I know homedepot has a 2pack of rubber strap wrenches for a decent price. They work great on feednecks lprs and hprs. Anything that you dont want to get the anno messed up on

Yup strap wrenches are our friends. Another trick is to remove the tray and frame. This give you more room to get ahold of the reg and asa.

Does your xmill have the old skool bushmaster 2000 reg or the newer asa/reg combo?

Mine had the old skool. The whole thing came off the body pretty easily, it was a different story disassembling the reg. The strap wrenches came in handy though.

It's fully disassembled right now. only thing left to do is remove the HPR from the body so I can remove the valve. This thing sure is on there. Any chance ICD used loctite on the HPR screw?

I have removed about 5-6 and never once saw loctite.

If you can't get a good enough grip on the reg with a strap wrench I've clamped it inbetween two wood blocks in a vice. The wood will deform to grab the reg.

I've also taken the end of the strap on the strap wrench and clamped it in the vice to get the reg apart.... (no dammage) You do what you have to...

Leather strapping is what I would use, wind it tight and then wet it. The leather will absorb the moisture and then when it dries out it will constrict on the regulator and you can twist as much as you want.

wow...ok. what a pain in the posterior. I'm going to go looking for that 2pk of strap wrenches Northup was talking about. If that doesn't work I'll get extreme. Wonder if heating the body would help?

Got it apart....whew!..what a female k-9! Got the strap wrench, that didn't work as the strap kept slipping against the smooth surface of the reg. Ended up using the strap as a pad to keep the ViceGrips from marring the reg....that worked.
