Ok, so I was on the way home last night and I had a thought. Why is it that in a marker like the Bushy you have to have a seperate valve and ram? Why can't they be the same piece? I mean this way you could considerably shorten the marker, which would make it lighter, and you would avoid the lack of efficiency associate with a spool valve type marker. Plus you would loose the need for a valve spring and you could truely control the air flow of the marker electronically.

Just a thought.

You mean an Intimidator?

Oh, is that what a Timmy is....I've never actually seen one so I didn't know. Cool. So if that is the case why are they still so friggin long? I was just thinking that if it's all one piece it could make the marker so short almost like a hand gun. But Timmy's are pretty big (from what i've seen online).

Well the intimidator does not have the ram attached to the valve as you described above. The Timmy has a ram sleave that houses the ram and at one end the valve. It still utilizes a free moving ram and a free moving poppit.

In a ram driven system, the ram moves the bolt to load the paintball and then for just a couple miliseconds opens the valve. Older intimidators are somewhat long but this has to do w/ the physics of the gun. If you look at the Gen 5's Bob and his team have engineered them so that they are considerably shorter. My old Vice was tiny.

Interesting idea but I think you would have to have a very different kind of valve design. It would have to be some sort of tube that the valve slid through. At the end of the stroke it could open up. I think in theory it would work. I think w/ the design of the bottom tube of the Bushmaster it would be difficult to make something that would work this way but hey w/ unlimited funds and some engineers anything is possible.

Why not just make an electronic valve?

But then you would have to have something to move the bolt. Small solenoid would would perfect. It would be great if you could have it be mechanical though. Then your only electronic is opening the valve. I believe there was a cocker valve that worker on this sort of operation.

I always thought an MQ valve was just a pnematic ram/valve set up for a cocker...but that would explain why the ram is so small (looks more like a noid in a spyder than a ram).
