not to be a idiot, but what are you using to weld with? I would be a little concerned about structural intergrity.

lincon migpak 180. can easily weld up to 1/2. Im not to concerned my tacoma is not even a boxed frame from the factory. its channel frame in the back. all im doing is cutting out the inside rott and boxing the frame again with 3/16th flat stock..

if i was concerned about the strength of the frame i would have cut it off at the back and welded new 3"x4" 3/16th box all the way to the back... i still might do this but not untill next summer

my welder is more then capable of welding the steel on our backhoe so i know it can penetrate this 1/8th frame

That's a decent little welder. Just a question that popped in my head as I was remembering watching a guy stitch a frame back together with a little flux core job. Thing broke before he ever got it off the lift.

that's because he was using flux core and didn't know what he was doing. you can't use flux core for structural welding.

I welded in metal shop in high school. I enjoyed it. I should have taken more classes at the junior college.
