You know I have been around here for some time now. for the longest time the only active mods were Spittle and Colin. I guess since Spittle only pops in from time to time Colin felt the need to put on some new mods. Ok cool. I guess that's FGB and Nobody now? No prob. I just want to say that in the past they had always moderated with a great amount of moderation and restraint. If a thread got off topic they were alway there to very politely request the content get back on track wich almost always resulted in it's intended purpose. They didn't just go around locking threads. The ex-GF thread could have easily gotten back on track with a simple suggestion from a mod, even the author suggested it get back on track before locking it. I was in the midst of typing a great ex story when the thread was locked, now i'm too lazy to re-type it. so none of you will ever read it...I even had video to go along with it as well as copies of the police reports! lol

I jack alot of threads, usually it's funny so no one minds. when I actually say something serios or controversial it gets locked. In the past it was just suggested to get back on track and that was always the end.

seriously few threads get locked around here, use a little restraint. This forum is full of easy going laid back folk, we don't really cause much trouble, we run the riff raff off so Mods here have it really easy, just don't go overboard. That's all I'm saying. I still love you all. Smile This is not a bone picking session just a freindly bit of advice to new mods, take it for what it's worth wich is probably worth about what you paid for it. Smile

to be fair, this really should have been a pm to whoever locked it ( which i assume is nobody) but lets try not to cause too much controversy here; it's a friendly forum after all and we're all friends.

I didn't have any issues with the thread, people were being polite and there were good counter points. I was really interested in seeing where it was headed.

I think you hit it right on. I didn't know for sure who locked it to send a pm. I suspected it may have been Nobody but didn't want to shoot him a pm if it wasn't him. I didn't want to be accusatory toward anybody. Still whoever the new mods are just need to use a bit of restraint, that's all. Around here "on topic" is and has for the most part always been pretty loose.

I mean no harm, I come in peace.

with the vast majority of our members being way cool peeps, there is very little need for much moderating to begin with. when was the last time you saw Colin have to actually have to swing the gavel? This just isn't that kind of community really.

no, i'm the one that locked it. i really didn't see it being viable, and could see it on the knife's edge of turning ugly. now, i might have just earned my mod stripes here, but i've been a mod years before on other forums.

being a mod is good as it is bad. half the stuff is judgement calls and i made one. when you make that call, you will step on someone's toes and feelings get hurt. i can't undue it, as that would mean that i don't have the respect to mod and to cower to the likes of popular opinion would mean there is no mod.

with that, there is nothing stopping having a post like ex-GF's II. its not like it hasn't been done before and i feel, as long as it doesn't get into drug talk(which OT, isn't a good OT, IMO) and the evils & benefits; everything will be fine.

I thought it was a good discussion of marijuana. Try and find such a mature discussion of the merits of medicinal marijuana and addiction on another paintball forum.

Maybe that's true at PbN, but here people are just fine with someone admitting they maybe jumped the gun and un-doing a call. I don't care what you do, but it's not a respect thing. And being a mod doesnt mean you are a ruling class and that you have to be respected for your call to stand. that's just silly. popular opinion is what makes the site happen. if everybody here, the majority anyway, have a valid point about something its the Mods job to listen to it or we all just go somewhere else.

The thread in question was in the "Off Topic Forum"! Suddenly you make the rules as to what is "Good" and "Bad" in OT? We have had clear guidelines for years in OT and has never been an issue. When a OT thread in the OT forum is no longer interesting people stop reading it and posting in it and the thread peeters out.

I'm not ranting at anyone, I'm not mad, nor are my feelings hurt. I just want to make it known that this community doesn't need a heavy handed approach to Moderating. A little OT ranting from time to time is fun around here and we get away with it because we are a small and well behaved community. You new mods have been given power, now I only ask you wield it responsibly...that's all. Cheers!

We are a free loving and peaceful bunch. Smile

I think I'm with crash on this one. The discussion was far childish rants; the discussion was mature and respectful.

But in nobody's defense, the op did request that the thread be closed. I'm not going to fault Doug for that.

I feel like drugs are a polarizing topic. We don't have ot threads on religion or abortion, so maybe having a drug one is inappropriate. Maybe not. I feel like we are mature enough as a forum to discipline ourselves.

I don't feel like the thread should have been closed. I would have changed the discussion, or split the thread or something. Because when you get down to it, it was basically everyone "attacking" l3go. Even though it was respectful, I feel like ot would have eventually devolved into a "flame war".

Maybe the closing was premature, but even if it wasn't closed now, then it eventually it would have died out and reverted back to ex talk.

My point exactly we are a mature bunch for the most part. this isn't PbN. lol Thread would have peetered or returned to the OP intent. Happy flowers for everyone.

I mean, I.see this as a moot issue. I feel like if l3go didn't ask for the thread to be closed, then it wouldn't have. I'm glad this was brought up, but I feel like no one is really at fault here.
