So last night I decided I needed to do some laundry and proceeded to load the wash machine. Afterward a sat and watched some tv. I went to look for my phone and realized that my droid was still in the pocket of the pants I just put in the wash! I frantically ran down stairs shut the machine off and wouldn't you know they were at the bottom of the load. I shook it out and of course water just flung out. I hit it with the hair dryer and put it in a ziplock bag with a bunch of silica and desiccant packages for the night.

I woke up this morning, put the battery back in and IT WORKED! the phone didn't have reception but with wi fi I could still get on the net. A few hours later I hit it with the hair dryer and rebooted it and now it is fully functional!

Has anyone else had this kind of luck? Btw this isn't the first phone I've washed but it is the first to survive(I'm really forgetful about stuff in my side cargo pockets)

i've heard of man phones that had this happen. the bag of rice is the trick.

I keep pens in my pocket for work and after a few times of those ruining laundry, I now do a very through check to make sure nothing is in my pocket.

I've inked my work clothes once our twice. I usually check everything thoroughly but every once in a while I forget a few things. That little cargo pocket on my right leg has doomed a few phones. We have these little packs of desiccant beads that draw moisture out of cabinets. I used one of those in a plastic bag and so fat it seems to have worked.

had a pen in the wash happen this summer. it was 2 loads, got about 80% of my work shirts and a bunch of other stuff. had to really work to get the ink out, since it was a pilot pen, not a ball point. had my wallet washed a couple of times, but never a phone. use it too much.

My old lady has a bad habit of leaving stuff in her pockets. I threw a pair of her pants in the laundry about a 9 months ago while her phone still in the pocket. I realized the phone was there as soon as the pants left my hands and I immediately fished it out, took it apart and put it in the oven on the "warm" setting. It worked still. Her mom did the same thing a few months ago and did not realize the phone was there. That time, the phone did not survive.

One of the keys to our VW went through the wash. She says it was in my pants. This is not very likely as I clear my pockets before I put laundry in the basket. I put the key in a pint glass full rice and have not yet had an opportunity to test it out. I hope it works, because those keys are pricey.

My Motorola Backflip has been through hell and still works like a champ. It's been buried in asphalt, soaked in diesel, dropped from 50 feet and rained on. I've had to take it apart and use a magnet to get all the metal fragments out of it. It's insane the abuse I have tossed at it.

That is awesome. My Motorola Razr did not survive dry thinset. I have put my ottorbox'ed iphone through alot, but nothing that extreme.

I've been lucky with phones, my Razr went almost a year with no outside display because I destroyed it when it went through the paver.

You guys sound like me. I'm so hard on phones, that I just go to tmobile and stock up on their $8 flip phones. I break one every 2 weeks or so. Its nonsense. I don't think I've ever had a display on a phone that wasn't cracked.

Your probably the guy that plays baseball with their phone once its so far gone huh? Lol

I know a lot of people that stock up on track phones, I've thought about getting one for emergencies like that.

The one reason I freaked so much about this situation is because my dad has been in the icu for the last week recovering from having a cancerous tumor removed. I need to have some line of communication and I didn't feel right all night and this morning.
