most of the time, people who go that far(in tattoos and piercings) don't ask for it either. its the image that people see from the outside, where they put their own personal values to it, is where it its wrong.

but just because someone looks different, should they be denied employment? isn't that against the law?

Doug, by all means no! However, a company does have the right to deny employment to someone if they feel that person does not portray the image the company wishes to project.

It has nothing to do with them not looking like me. What it has to do with is the ideals that guy tries to shove up my backside. If he doesn't want to tell me that socialism is better than freedom I really have no issue with his self-expression. If he realizes that he will never have a job in an office or he never wants one then he is good to go. The issue is when that guy tries to go corporate and expects them to hire him. Would you want him to represent what you company stands for? I sure would not.

We have become very accepting of what these people are doing to themselves but they still represent a part of society that is viewed as vagrant, criminal, goth, and put what ever you want to in that list. These are still seen as unwanted groups that cause nothing but trouble and unrest. So if you walk into the office for your interview and you have a big gauge in your nose, it doesn't matter if you are wearing an Armani suit. What matters is what you are portraying yourself to be a part of.
Maybe five to ten years from now it won't be an issue anymore for the US but not now.

Hey, I'm willing to bet that dude with tattoos all over his face knows what a half of a half is.

Sometimes, it doesn't matter what you look like. It just matters if you know how to do the job correctly.

Jus sayin'

whatever happened to the right person for the job? years ago, women used not be considered for more than secretarial jobs or the like. is that thought still there? what about homosexuality?

whether those individuals are right for the job, should be the only ideal. my GF was fired from a waitressing job 2 years ago, not because of anything bad in her performance, but more likely because she has Tourrette's Syndrome. though no official notice was given, just that she wasn't needed anymore. we couldn't prove that it was the reason, but that's what we suspected. is it right, no, but its what people do. hiring and firing because of the way people look is wrong and there are laws against it. the truth is, if a job is really important that should determine if a proper lawsuit is forthwith or not.

and i hate to tell you Mayford, but we aren't free. the only people that are, are the ones that have the money to not care what it takes, to make it in life. when they can just buy there way in, or out. Income tax, social security, those are socialist tenants. hell, we aren't even a Democratic nation, we are a Republic. elected officials that vote for us, or at least seem to. i just hate trying to explain that notion to people.

I bet he probably could answer the simple math question.

We have a couple of people the gages in our manufacturing facility. Are they bad workers....no. Are they great workers who want to move up the ladder into an office job....no. They are there to do their job and that is it, they dont want to be in a corporate position (cause that is where the MAN is).

Small sample, but at least my experience with them...

Holy bat guano! Derailed! Lol

Oh well, some people will never understand why looking like a poor decision maker probably means you ARE a poor decision maker. At least that's how the world is going to see it, like it or not, right or wrong.

If it has webbed feet and quacks ya know.

Crash, are you in anyway involved in decisions on the hiring that occurs at your workplace?
