Recently I've gotten the itch to give back to the community. Any community to be honest. I'd like to use paintball and charity in the same sentence to raise money for a worthy charity or cause. I have a few in mind and being a military member one stands out but that's neither here nor there. This will be my first time organizing a charity event of any magnitude and I've done a good bit of research in the realms of what to do and what not to do, hows and whys, where's, and logistics. I've looked at websites for the mentioned charities to get starter packages in order to kick start the effort. The thing I'm running into is what format I should pick for the event.

I read a recent article about a charity paintball scenario in Minnesota that raised over $50,000 for their cause. I took note of the fees they charged for entry. I also looked at a 3 Man Charity Tournament that raised over $10,000. So I know there is money to be raised, I just have to find the method. I have ideas to raffle gear and equipment should sponsors contribute in order to generate some extra fundage. I've discussed with a local field the possibility of hosting the game and we tossed ideas around about paint and field costs going towards charity.

I posted this here because some other sites I won't name so as not to besmirch their reputation, have a tendency to start flames while the quality of ICDO has been one of the best I've experienced ever. So poll away. If you want to know the idea I have for the scenario, PM me and I'll explain it. I don't want to give away my sekrets!

it all depends on your ability to promote, and your location. A scenario has the potential to bring more players, but only if you are able to promote it properly.

Location matters a lot as well. If you're in a tourny heavy area, you may be able to grab quite a few players who are looking to test their skills, as well as help out a charity. Every year a place by me has a charity 3 man and they have great success, but they also host 3 man tourneys all year round.

contact some various companies(Tippmann, Empire, PE, etc) where you could get discounts for items for giveaways for charity. include a ticket with the entrance but people will be able to buy more tickets for the giveaway.

but more so, arrange things with the field. though the charity is worthy, the field that makes no money is a closed field. as long as they are happy, people will be happy playing the game.

Right on. This would be my first time hosting something like this. As for area and location. I'm in the South Puget Sound area. Quite a few teams in this area. A good number of fields too.

Cool idea man, props for taking the initiative. I voted 4-6 hour scenario as imo people that don't play often (or ever) prefer woodsball. Tourney would be cool too. Best would be a field w both. What has your research said about best marketing practices? How are you choosing the 'cause' and why? (or benefit, charity, etc)

You live near any pro teams or semi pro? Ask if they would donate 6 hours of their time and come out and help ref the game, speedball or senecio, they would help promote paintball, the charity and help increase enrollment. Include hot dogs and soda. If it is speedball charity have all names in a bag and drawn teams, that way you don't get a team dominating....fun for everyone, it is for charity. Just some ideas have fun and hope your successful.

Being in the Air Force, I really would like to support the Wounded Warrior Project. I have also considered; Suzan G. Komen Foundation and Stamp out Hunger, Children's Cancer Research Fund, St. Jude's Children's Hospital are the notables among a few others. This is something I'd like to do multiple times, each event with a different charity. If I can make the first one a success, each consecutive would will hopefully bring more.

I'll admit I'm not as keen on marketing strategy, but with social media, forums, flyers, soliciting sponsors from the local area as well as paintball sponsors abroad, I think I can drum up a good bit of support. If anyone has advice on this, lay it on me.

As for teams, I'm located near Seattle Thunder, and Tacoma Notorious with many others around.

The field I'm considering for the scenario game has woods/urban and bridge fields all interconnected with roads and trails, they also have a turf speedball field as well. Unfortunately access to this field is restricted to the military base, but it's one of the most well maintained fields in the area, so I'd have to work out getting people from off base access to the field. Any more the bases are getting really touchy about who they let on due to risks of terrorism. There are other options but they are a good distance out from the local area by up to 20 or more miles, some won't be willing to make the drive. I still have a bit more scouting to do in this regard.

I've never run a tournament but I have a few ideas to keep it regulated. Would like to see the same guns used across the board to keep it equal so players can't complain about the guns that others have. The above mentioned field, has 'upgrade' rental Etek3's with Rotors. They have about 10 - 15 I think, which is enough to keep 2 teams on the field and 2 sets of markers ready to go to the next teams on deck. Gun limits Semi-only, 12 bps limit. I really like the blind hat draw team creation, would hopefully get a good mix of players. Would like to see double elimination brackets so that each team gets to play at least 2x, if you win obviously more.

The big problem I can see with this is, this field I want to play at doesn't have 2 tournament style fields to keep play moving for winners and loser's bracket.
