^^ yeah that kid cracks me up everytime... so when someone made a hand drawing of the gif I couldn't resist.

I checked out your guys' suggestions (thank you!), but it looks like I don't have much choice if I want over 100gb of storage..... so it's time to take the plunge. Apple has snared another....

yeah...Apple has the best infrastructure IMO too.

Oh and somebody mentioned other players can plug into some stereos with the aux port. yes it true, but they suck. if you compare the sound quality from a clean USB signal to a dirty AUX headphone jack... night and day. USB interface sound is 1000 x better.

I was lucky enough to get an iPod for a present back in the day. It's a fifth generation, 30g iPod. I have to say it's been pretty good to me throughout the 6 or so years I've had it.

Although it's had some issues with the battery and headphone jack going bad, I was able to replace those myself with some pretty cheap aftermarket parts off of eBay.

The problems I have with the iPod is that it isn't very friendly when it comes to sharing music and always having to plug it into my computer when I want some new music on it.

I did get my girl a Sansa clip last year for Christmas and I have to say I almost like it better than my iPod. Sure, it only holds 8g which isn't anywhere near to what you need to hold, but it does take microSD cards which are made pretty cheaply for up to 32g these days, so all you would need is a few microSD cards to pack along with you and boom, you have your 100g.
And honestly, I really don't listen to more than, like, 10g in a few weeks. A lot of the stuff on my iPod I haven't listened to in a while. I'm just too lazy to go through it all and pull it off.

Yeah, the iPod might be easier to scroll through songs and listen to, but a Sansa clip does just as much, is a lot cheaper, is smaller(that's bad if you have a tendancy to lose stuff) has a better battery life and has the ability to swap out microSD cards in the blink of an eye.

If you just want to listen to music and don't need to be part of the in crowd, check out Sansa clip.

Did anybody else have an Arcos Jukebox back in the day, or was that just me?

Zune are like ICD guns. they work, they have features that others don't know about, but are seldom seen or used by the rest of the world.

now if ICD had a benefactor like Gates...

Haven't had much time to search so more questions before I pull the trigger:

1-With Ipods, how do you upload music to device? Do you need itunes? Or can you use MS folder view like I do w my android phone and just copy/paste files and folders? 2-How about burning? Can I burn my cd's to device or will I get copyright issues? 3- what's it called when you 'root' it (like a phone) and is that process worth the effort?

1) Generally you have to use iTunes to add music...although I think you can directly add it to the iPod, but the organization isn't as great.

2) I'm not sure what you mean here. If you have a CD, you can import/rip it into iTunes and then add it from there. No copyright issues.

3) Don't know much about rooting, but there was a program that I played around with called Rockbox that was an opensource replacement for the iPod OS. It's supposed to let you do a whole bunch of stuff, mostly customization. I've seen iPods that have this, its really cool when done right, but the music has to be well-organized in order to add it correctly. That was a few years ago, so it might have changed.
