Alright, got this laptop used a few months ago, and I knew I was going to need to replace the battery.

So I replaced the battery and it still won't turn on, the lights will flag but there is no noise and it doesn't turn on.

Could it be the CMOS battery?

I've never heard of the cmos battery going bad. Even if it is bad, your mobo should just remain at the default settings on the BIOS.

Will it boot under AC power?

Hm. I have a similar problem with a used acer net book I have. I wonder if it is the same thing.

It is the original CMOS battery, it's 13 years old, just bought a new battery, Im willing to bet it is the cause.

Just bought the battery and it was only $3.00, free shipping, 14 day return.

Usually the CMOS battery doesn't affect start-up, it how ever does wipe the motherboard to factory settings from its BIOS instructions. There are various reasons it will not start. If your using an aftermarket or old charger, and it doesn't meet specified wattage it will not start. Dell laptops for example have a IC with their chargers with prevent use of aftermarket chargers.

I would remove the memory and clean the contacts to start with. Short of taking apart the laptop it would try those two things first.

It's charging the battery like it needs too, so how could it not start it up? Even with ac power it won't turn on.

I have a Dell with an after market charger. It shows that it's charging but it never gets enough to actually support battery only power on. There are various circuits that could be disrupted which would not let it power on. Just saying, I've started laptops with out the CMOS battery even attached.
