I'm unable to play now for a month 'cause of an operation...
so I disassemble my bko to unreckognition and starts to think of how I can make it better... god knows why, 'cause it runs just fine as it is..

anyway here's the idea:
to shorten the distance between the hammer and valvepin to have a more rapid action, so it takes less time for the hammmer to travel in order to make a shot.

I've already shorten it by 5-8 mm (1/5-1/3 inch i think) and it cycles ok.
I also shorten the bolt by the same
It still has to push the ball past the detent and seal from the feedneck so it can't be too much.
it's a stock 2003 bko (old style ram) and to move the hammer forward i just pushed it out 5-8mm and tighten it there.
another way could be to put a distance between the hammerhead and the cylinder, around the shaft, but that would make the spring more tense..

testshooting with balls will happen this weekend, probably...

anybody thinking samething or has any ideas to tribute ;D

I won't stop tinker 'til I mess it up.. ;D

If you are wanting to speed up the cycling rates of the marker I wouldnt shorten the path so much as I would change the weight of the hammer. I think this would have a better chance of increasing the cycling speed. I would got a machinist to turn down the hammer assmebly to make it as light as possible so it will require less force to move forward as well as backwards. You will probably have to run the LPR at a slightly higher pressure because the impact force of a lighter hammer will decrease the dwell time of the valve. In turn you might see the FPS drop slightly.
You can also polish everything to make it shine like a diamond in a goats arse. This will reduce friction and allow the ram to cycle better since there will be less drag on it.
Now if you want to get really funky with it lets take some aero dynamics into consideration and lets say that the face of the hammer is much like a wing on a plane. With it having a flat surface like it currently does the face is going to cause excessive drag by reducing surface area of the face or by changing the angel of the face you will allow the bolt to pass through the air in the marker quicker.
This is all theroy but it is all worth trying if you are wanting to make it cycle faster.

Another theory I have heard is selling the BKO and purchasing a Bushmaster will increase cycling rates as well Very Happy

Good Luck.

ummm.. wouldnt moving the ram forward.. also bring the bolt forward? causing a feeding issue?

i was thinking of buying a aka viking but what would i tinker with then... ;D

anyway, the force it takes to move the hammer and hit the valvepin is my secondary target, no. 1 is to shorten the time it takes for the hammer to get to the valvepin and return.
the dwell time should still be able to adjust via the lpr

i guess these are the forces one can reckon:
- distance
- springtension
- air resistance
- airvolume required to move the hammer

as to shorten the time one shot takes, the distance should have most affekt, the rest is just a matter of amount of air

as for using less force the spring is the most resistance, but lighten the spring makes it return slower..

hmmm... gotta sleep on this...
maybe it'll go away in the morning... ;D

if you shorten the bolt doesn't the balls roll back and then gets slamed by the forward moving shorter bolt?

nice one SP...what's wrong with BKO tinkering?

what if you made the valve pin longer??? while making the hammer more aerodynamic and shortening it. i like the idea of making the ram light Smile i might look into that one.

The only way I can see to shorten the ram to its fullest is going to require the body to be modified. If memory serves me correctly I believe the bolt/hammer assembly moves a total of one inch from the cocked position to the firing position.

The shortest I would make the bolt is .725 inches. This will give you the ability to load and ball and clear the feed neck. To achieve this you will have to cut down the ram shaft and rethread it as well as cut off the face of the bolt and shorten the back of the body up to allow for this allow for this new assembly to be mounter. Dont forget you are probably gonna have to adjust the slot in the top of the recieve to allow for the movement of the bolt pin as well.

I will think about it some more but I think that pretty well covers the basics of what you are wanting to do.

a longer valvepin will just make the valve open earlier and longer time

as shootpaint said, the shortest possible movement would be .725

I'll see if it's possible to move the whole ram forward.
it will require some dremel time and two new holes in the body for the ram
and ofcourse shorten the bolt some more

I don't think the weight of the ram/hammer has so much to do with it as airresistance and springtension
