I use Lubrimatic (stant) multi-purpose lithium grease. NLGI #1.5. It's a dark gray color grease in a tan/white tube. It was only $5 for a 3 pack of 3 oz tubes at home depot. It works fairly well but is kind of thin.

Not bad. Check the content.. is it synthetic or petroleum based? Could be a great alterntive for a lot of people.

Here is the info on the radio shack gel lube from its MSDS (Material DAta Safety Sheet).

Hazardous Components OSHA PEL ACGIH TLV Recommended Percentages
(Specific Chemical/Identity; Common Name(s)
SYNTHETIC HYDROCARBON CAS# 68037-01-4 70-80%
PETROLEUM HYDROCARBON CAS# 8042-47-5 10-20%
ANTI-OXIDANT CAS# 41484-35-9 .5-2%
FUMED SILICA CAS# 68611-44-9 7-10%
THERMAL STABILIZER CAS# 68648-89-5 3-5%
POLYTETRAFLUORETHYLENE CAS# 9002-84-0 .5-2%
POLYGLYCOL CAS# 025322-69-4 1-2%
PROPRIETARY ADDITIVES .25 -1%

As you can see from its list of chemicals that make up the product it uses oil in its make up

20% or 100% Still means that the product is not petroleum free which translates to is it could possibly affect oring or seals. I did read it I an instructor about hazardous materials(MSDS/HAZMAT). I was simply pointing out that if you have have problems with materials that contain or use petroleum based products then you could consider staying away from this product. Stating that is only 20% is like stating that its only 20% poison whats the big deal its only a little poisonous. Additionally synthetic hydrocarbon products tend to use a petroleum base to produce its product.
As for this reply It was posted for information only. So Implying that I should read the material is unwanted and/or unneeded. Remember when you point a finger at somebody else you are also pointing three back at your self at the same time. K!

Don't be retarded.

20% means that when you lubricate your marker, there's next to nothing there.

As for telling you to read... well... READ.

If you wanted to post it for information's sake, that's nice, but do a little thinking before you suggest a lubricant isn't valid because of some of its contents.

The issue is not that I have a problem with anything that contains petroleum.. Petroleum BASED lubricants (i.e. the largest ingredient is a pure petroleum product) are not as smart to use.

Howsabouts you READ the manual, where it clearly states all this?

D.

As I stated I am an instructor for MSDS/HAZMAT not some 15 year old out play paintball on the weekend(NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT) I am most likely twice your age, I currently have 21 years experience at my current job, I KNOW HOW TO READ QUITE WELL thank you for your attempts to insult me. forums are supposed to be for fun and a little information, not for someone to try to insult or degrade others online. As for effect of petroleum based products. There are orings which are effected by ANY petroleum based product regardless of amount, petroleum distillates are still PETROLEUM. Quote "If you're using an o-ring with low nitrile content (i.e a primarily natural rubber o-ring), the petroleum-based lubricants will literally dissolve it over a relatively short span of time: -DarrylHadfield-.

I THINK WE ARE DONE NOW......
