I just bought an ebay valve for my promaster and now it leaks pretty noticeably. Never had any leaking issues before so it's definitely a defunct valve seal. What can I do to modify the valve and or stem to get it to not leak. Has anyone else tried to fix a leaky valve before? Any help is appreciated.

This is a website where players of all ages visit. I know I would appreciate it if you were to use a more apropriate avatar, others here would as well.

I hope my new avatar is age-appropriate enough for ya. Does anyone have any insight into my problem?

It looks relatively clean and smooth, should I sand it down some? Just to test if it was the valve I wrapped the cup in teflon tape to create a seal and that stopped the leak. But as soon as you shoot it shreds the tape of course.

I had an ebay valve that leaked, I got it used from a seller that told me so. The leak was from a person pushing the valve in with a screw driver.
A wood dowel or a soft pencil is the proper tool if your fingers arent long enough.
The valve had a few really small nicks that you could only see if you looked very close.
Anyway took some 1500 grit wet/ dry sandpaper from the auto paint store and taped it flat to a window. (glass is really flat for those that dont know - that part was really important) Wet the paper with a sponge. Took the aluminum part of the valve and held it face down and made soft smooth arcs, always rotating the valve to a different position after two strokes - till the defects were gone. It didnt take long and not much was removed. It all has to be even = no dips or spot sanding in one spot Then that ebay valve worked like the ones I bought new! (no leaks)

Now kids dont go grabbing grandpas 150 grit sand paper and sanding on your valve with just your fingers! What I did worked fine, but the items and the method used were done for specific reasons.

Another way that I used successfully was putting lapping compound on the valve pin and rotating it against the valve face. Mine was not seriously nicked, I was just trying to get a good mating surface.

I sanded it at a little bit of an angle to hopefully get a better seal and it definitely improved the leak, though it's still not 100%. I'm running it at pretty much the same HPR pressure as I did with the old valve but I'm getting better velocity and less efficiency, which I hope is just the minor leak. I thought you were supposed to be able to decrease the HPR pressure with the ebay valve? The pic is just for eye candy.
