Okay thanks for the suggestion and I'll check it out this weekend. As a question, are the valve stems usually put in with Loctite or how would you suggest getting it out of the valve itself?

Also, if there was a scratch then when the cylinder assembly was off the marker wouldnt the cylinder assembly leak air when i check seals in my hand (i.e. push in the bolt and see if the air holds inside the assembly? -- which it does)

Thanks,
Mike

First, I put valve stem and I meant valve tip. The valve tip should just screw out with a bit of elbow grease. If it is in there with anything, it is just teflon tape. There is usually an oring in there too. You could replace that for good measure.

I would leave the valve pin alone. Those can be a pain in the but to get out because they are sometimes lock-tighted into the bolt. If you have already changed the oring on the valve pin, it should be fine.

It is possible that it would leak when you check the seals with it disassembled.

Hey maloneoni (or anyone else?),
Thanks for the advice and finally sat down with this sucker again to try and figure out whats going on. Pretty much from what i can tell the cylinder assembly itself is sealing and holds air but from what i can tell of the 2005 schematics (I'm new to this marker) it looks like there is no pressure occurring for the piston to stay cocked back (comes in via the 3way valve?).

I'm having a hard time understanding how the air flows through this marker and wondering if anyone has any flow schematics or could explain it to me.

From what i can read this is how i think it works...
The LPR seems to be used to regulate the pressure the solenoid uses to cock the gun back which air flows through the manifold to the piston? The High pressure goes to shoot the paintball straight through the marker and therefore is why it pushes the piston forward and air flows out the barrel. If there isnt any pressure to cock the piston back is this a solenoid issue (it clicks when i pull the trigger but dont know if that means a solenoid works..) or is there something wrong perhaps with the LPR which is supposed to regulate air to the Solenoid?

Thanks,
Mike

The air coming out of the LPR is used to cock the bolt back. The solenoid in the marker is only used to turn on and off the air flowing to the LPR.

The air coming out of the HPR is used to cycle the bolt forward and push the paintball out of the marker at velocity.

If the marker is not cocking back properly, it is most likely an LPR/solenoid issue.

Don't know what to tell you, other than to check your LPR out again.

If you are certain that your LPR is working fine then the worst case scenario is that is may be a solenoid or manifold issue.

If the solenoid bleeds off as you turn up the LPR pressure, either the piston in the solenoid isn't seating properly or one of the o-rings on the solenoid piston is shot. Also, the manifold could be stripped, the manifold o-rings or the gasket could be bad.

So, I guess what I would do, in this order are:

Turn all regs to off. Stick squegee in breech. Turn on air. Turn up HPR to 340psi. Turn up LPR. If it starts bleeding off, keep turning it up. The piston in the solenoid might need to be re-seated by applying a good amount of pressure.
If the leaking doesn't stop after continually turning up the LPR pressure, go ahead and turn off your air.
At that point, I'd advise you to carefully remove the solenoid from the manifold and check the gasket and o-rings between the solenoid and manifold and manifold and body.
YOU HAVE TO BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL with removing and reinstalling those solenoid mounting screws because they have a tendency to strip out the manifold. I'd suggest, if you can find them, to find some longer solenoid mounting screws. At one point a gentleman on this site sold them, but he doesn't frequent this site anymore.
The solenoid and manifold on Freestyles are the biggest headache and I wouldn't want to mess with it too much.
I hope the problem lies with the LPR somehow.

Good Luck.

If the manifold is stripped, I have some 2-56 screws that you can use. The manifold has to be taped to accept them, but it fixes the problem.
