I've been following it on the net today, pretty crazy. Those people with frontage homes look as though they have total losses.

I think that was expected, by any rational person. Those people had to know they were seeing their houses in good repair for the last time. It's still quite sad, especially since winter is about to set in quickly.

^^ yes that is very sad to think about, knowing your home will be gone in a few days, especially when you think about how much time/energy we put into maintaining a home. Not anywhere as sad as the loss of life however. I've read about 10's of people being killed by trees falling over.

I suppose if there was an opportune time to shoot out some old paint, now would be it.

I'm with Martix. I'll stick with a tornado. Don't have as much time to prepare, but only here for a matter of seconds. You guys on the east coast stay safe.

i'm back home. my house came out unscathed. just lots of leaves, some branches and no flood damage. my house lost power for about 4 minutes. the friend's house lost power for about 12+ hours. we had a generator and it really didn't effect much. but that is only in my county. up north, there is massive flooding on the islands, downed trees, fire damages and from last count 38 fatalities.

tides-there are 2 high and 2 low tides a day. and one day for each of the morning and evening high a low tides, there is a flood. the tides are also effected by the moon. as the moon orbits the earth, it pulls water to where it is. so every 6 hours the water is constantly moving. with this hurricane, landfall was going to happen right at or near as can be a lunar high tide. the water was cresting already at high tide, then the moon pushes even moon water. add all that in with the water generated by the hurricane and you have massive amounts of water. like a tsunami, which is one or a few walls of solid water heading to you, the hurricane is bashing the coast, the homes with constant waves, like once a minute or less, add in the high winds and the torrential rain(also being driven by the 70+ winds) and there is not much that can withstand the force of hurricane.

with that said, i feel for the people that have lived through this. i am sorry about those that got hurt by this. be thankful that those in the center of the US never have to go through this.

Dude, I am thankful for what we have. I hope you and your family continue to make it through. Let me know if I can help in any way.

yeah, send me money for harnesses Wink

no, i'm good. have plenty to do. in a very bad view, i wish that my house would have been destroyed. i'm not "living" in there persay and am doing some work to it(new flooring, redid a window, making a new closet), and there is a lot that is done wrong or done way before codes were made. its a wiring mess and things that could have been done much better with better thought to livability.

so i have a happy home and back to work in the house. i'm currently in my offseason. did my 6 month full time work.

My sister and her husband live on Staten Island next to the water. My father whose is 70 loaded his van and trailer up with generater/my compressor/big trash pump & hoses along with tools and other supplies and headed down there thurs. morning. ( 4 hr drive) He got in with no problem and by night fall had pumped out not my sister's house, but the entire street and the next street over. He's quite popular my sister said.
A 70 yr old got in and started helping before any help from govt/police or nyc showed up. Said it's complete devastation. We've been through 2 major floods in the past 6 years and he said they don't compare to the devastation on Staten Island.
They have a long road ahead of them and with winter coming.
