3 parter here, and i'll leave it out of the general OT thread as this is a wow.
first, this afternoon, i was doing some house work(the dishes) and i heard a low pop, like an air mattress or plastic bottle pop in the distance. i don't have central air, so windows and doors are open. i peak outside to make sure nothing of mine did that. didn't think nothing of it. heard some fire sirens in the distance, and thought i smelled propane, or a whiff of gas.
well, the sirens where getting louder and i went outside as i was beginning to hear the crackle of a fire. i look over my fence(6' stockade) and the street behind me had something on fire. rushed to get my camera to take some pics. not that i revel in others misfortune, but just to see clearly what the hell was going on.
had a decent view of the house, boat on a trailer in the driveway and their garage, all on fire. the only thing that i could think of what happened is that the owners where prepping the boat, left a gas can outside(temps where high 70's low 80's), the sun beating down from 8am till about quarter after 3pm and the plastic can just burst, catching the awning(saw some structure behind the boat) the front of the garage and the back porch on fire. the only reason i think this is that after i mowed my lawn, i left my can(plastic) outside after putting the mower away, and it had expanded because of the heat.
Fire Department was there within minutes, they are less than 1/2 mile down the road, but it is a volunteer FD. didn't see much else after the rig got on scene since it was parked right in front from my vantage point.
though in these days of tornados and catastrophes make sure you put your gas cans away.
which brings me to this. i did take pics, not only to show my GF what happened this afternoon, but to share the images with everyone, as well as some from my work. but i get on to upload them, and photobucket changed their sight. haven't had a clue, and no matter what i tried, it kept taking me to a "mobile" sight. i had a good layout, easy to see images, with easy links, and while my pics saved where big thumbnails, i could tell what they where. 16 or so images per page and now they are down to 4.
so either photobucket is going to a more phone ready app, or i don't know. it does pail in comparison to events.
which brings me finally to why i'm writing this. for whatever reason, i can't sleep. i've had boughts of insomnia before, but so far this is going on for about 2 months where i fight to get to sleep at "normal times". granted my job is shift work and i work them all, around the clock. though, i tend to like the afternoon and midnight shifts better, since i'm a night person, but occasionally i do like to feel like a regular person. go to bed at night, get up in the morning and be done by the afternoon, which i am ironically going to work in 2 hours. i slept about 20 minutes as i woke up and haven't been able to get to sleep. spent about an hour just lying in bed, next to my honey, awake. what makes it worse is not that i have to go to work, or that i'll pull a 32 hour day tomorrow, when i get home, is that the previous night i was asleep by 11pm, and up before 8am.
i've tried just about everything to tire myself out and i'm getting sick and tired of it(sorry for the pun). nighttime cough aid with the drowsy formula, PM type OTC, other pills that used to put me on my arse quick. nope nothing works. which just puts me in a mode. what makes it worse is i am tired, but not sleepy. who knows, maybe i just need to vent this, like some demon that "resting" on my shoulder.
so anyone heard any good jokes lately?
