Ok, so my project is this Eclipse Bushy with LCD and PDS. I have almost all issues worked out to get this gun up and running except one. I have swapped the LCD wiring harness from my X-mill over to the Eclipse so I could have LCD and PDS. I have the wiring for the Eyes with the connector for the daughter board hooked up. With the harness out of the gun everything works fine(LCD display works, noid fires, etc.) but I have no way to tell if the eyes are working. Regardless of the Eyes switch being on or off the noid still fires. Should not the noid fire if the eyes are switched on and they are "seeing" one another. I realize it should fire if the eyes are not "seeing" each other right? What do you guys think? Bad eyes? Am I just stupid....whats up?

take the marker into a dark room, and look at the IR transmitter to see if it is lit up with a digital camera, you can even use the one that is on most phones.

You should be able to see a bright dot, or try tripping the trigger and see if it flashes.

If it is solid, then I think you have your transmitter and receiver mixed up, which means that it should flash when you pull the trigger.

This will at least tell you if your eyes are getting power.

ok, tried the dark room/camera test...no results.

I am using a stock LCD bushy board with daughter board lcd/pds connections. My PDS harness connects to the daughter board.

Gun is currently set on "Zip mode" don't know if that makes a difference.

Eyes installed are the older 5mm eyes.

I have a set of 3mm eyes I can install in place of the 5mm ones. Just need to know wich wire is the ground on the 3mm eyes. blue wire or yellow wire? (Standard bushy wire colors)

can you use a digital multi meter to test the emitter and reciever eyes? I want to make sure i havnt damaged them.

Up to this point I have yet to get the eyes to work. If I install the emitter eye in what appears to backwards negative to anode and positive to cathode the noid ceases to fire and the LCD registers "AMMO"...... I'm just so confused.

Yes you can use a multimeter to test if they are operating correctly. Essentially when the receiver can see the emitter it closes the circuit so you can test by connecting the leads of your multimeter to your reciever and then blocking and unblocking the emitter.

how about testing the emitter? I tried the camera trick but get nothing emitted from the eye.

Also when replacing the eyes, if you have the anode and cathode reversed will it damge the eye? Or simply just not work?

And I notice the 5mm Fairchild Tx/Rx(that come stock from ICD) are 940nm in wavelength could I go with a 935 or 880 wavelength set as long as they were matched with the same emmission/reception angles being narrow and not wide?

I'm sure it could cause a problem if the angles were too wide...the IR light might go around the ball and never detect it blocking the path.

wow...this eye bizness is really baking my noodle!

on one side of the eye harness i get a constant 1v reading

on the other side(switch side) i get a constant .01v (+/-.002v) that jumps to aprox .05v (+/-.003v)when the trigger is pulled.

Wich side is the emitter and wich is the reciever?

If you reverse the polarity you will fry the component. Typically in older markers the emitter is a dark colour (purple, black-ish) and the receiver is a light colour (white, light blue etc...) when looking directly into the emitter/receiver.

The reason for this is that the black helps to focus the light by reflecting it, and the lighter colour is a filter to reflect light waves that would normally interfere with emitter detection.

Question... is there a little blue or red adjuster knob on your board? Does it look like you can turn it (careful)? I think they were potentiometers for the eye sensitivity on the older boards. Can anyone else confirm this?

After fiddling with the potentiometer you spoke of I find it only adjusts the contrast of the LCD display, turning it clockwise has the effect of dimming the LCD until it is blank and vice versa. no luck with it helping the eye problem.

When I look at my ICD eye diagram (WH9306 dated 4/02) it lists the emitter as PN# 1N6264 "Fairchild ifared Emitting diode"

Going to Fairchild Semicondutor's website reveals this is the metal cased diode with the glass lense(just like the diagram shows)

Also PN# QSD723 "Fairchild Photo Detector" Is not listed with Fairchild anymore however it is shown on the diagram with the same profile as the Black plastic one I have.
