Viggo was in the Lord of the Rings, but History of Violence and Eastern Promises(the ladies will love the bathhouse scene) ... tough call. great and underrated actor. he doesn't scream bad ass.

Renner, good, but nope. he could mess you up, but its not like you just quake in your boots when you see him.

both Renner and Viggo are in that "Taken" mode. you look and they are unimposing, but you blink and you are lucky if you are staring at your teeth as they hand them to you.

but you people are missing Vin Diesel, Dewayne Johnson, Mark Wahlberg(though Marky-mark can get a little whiny most times, but the man is cut!).

its a tough thing. its that whole aura of when you see them, you expect them to rule everything. kinda like Arnold in the 80's, you see the pic and you know that its going to be good.

its a tough thing and its like porn, you don't know it till you see it.

Viggo would **** Vin, Dewayne, and Mark up if you give him a bathhouse and a hook knife.

Everybody missed Eastern Promises. Totally underrated. A History of Violence was okay.

I like the Rock as an actor, but he is not nearly as big of a badass as Bruce Willis or the Governator.

Marky-Mark could be alot better than he is. Though I haven't seen The Fighter, so I can't really speak to that. Funny you should bring up the Rock and Marky-Mark. I pulled up IMDB to see what else Wahlberg was in and both the Rock and Wahlberg are staring in a flick together.

Not an American, but Tom Hardy. After seeing Bronson, I have never looked at that guy the same way.

I watched Once Upon a Time in the West a week or so ago. I was watching it again tonight.

Sergio Leone is unrivaled as a director of westerns.

Thats the one in Russia? Best part about that movie is it gave bruce an opportunity to go do a cameo on Top Gear this season =)

Actually I heard he is great in the movie but the supporting actors and story writing was what was sub par.

A good day to die hard wasn't awful but it was hands down the weakest of the series.

Saw snitch a couple of weeks ago. It was decent but not great.

We got to see a movie yesterday. So naturally, we saw Iron Man 3.

I enjoyed it; totally worth seeing in the theater. As with any trifecta of movies, everything following the first is not as good.

rented "Olympus has Fallen" last night at work. some of the earlier scenes were just laughable(tiny holes where a 20mm gatling gun was shot through them or just the implausible way that things have to fall into place). i truly wonder why Hollywood needs to show people stupidly running to the sound of gun fire, in the open without care of themselves and not maybe take a moment to look and get an idea of the situation and possibly do something smart or even what they are trained to do. as well as the classic, "you have a man that is sorta trusted, but the powers that be won't listen to what he is saying, and rashly make the wrong decision, which costs people lives but will prove the inside man was correct". as well, as the part where, everyone totally forgets that something happened, and no one will see it or care to look at a screen to confirm, and then rashly/stupidly rush in.

overall, if you consider that it will be the good guys will win at the last moment it was a decent movie, a little better than i initially thought. i was worth the $1.28 from Redbox. lots of violence, lots of bloodshed, a couple feel good to be an American moments. popcorn yes, GF/wife not really...

PostPosted: Sun Oct 06, 2013 8:52 am    Post subject: Re: ICDO at the movies.

watched Oblivion last night. so here's a 2 parter syn-ops. if you want just the movie, skip to part 2.

part 1:
i can not stand Tom Cruise or Tom cruise Movies. it seems to me that anything after "Rainman" that TC can not emote worth anything. though a fine actor, he just can not bring anything to a character to save his life. he plays the same thing in just about ever movie, just different names and different places. generally, an actor will sometimes bring something of himself into a role, or try to become the character(Method acting), or play the role as someone(biographies). poor Tom can not. War of the Worlds to Days of Thunder. so generally i despise most of his movies. i have refused to watch something what he is in, and have walked out. but maybe cause its sci-fi movie, i gave it a chance. plus i had 5 movies, 2 guns to work on and the book "Game of Thrones" to occupy myself.

part 2:
Oblivion was good. it was a little long in developing, but there was a certain intrigue to it. you almost need to see it through and to find out the mystery. there is a mystery there, and why did it happen to see this through. it was certainly shot very well, with top grade effects(this is a TC movie and TC doesn't do low-budget/cheap movies). now as a minor frustrated writer and a mystery lover, i had figured out the plot fairly early(did this with District 9, for example) and it had a story that i actually thought about, but couldn't get over the hump, as it were of not putting to paper(or electronic paper) but of seeing the idea to a logical conclusion. Oblivion actually did that, though mine would have been much better >Smile
i shant give the movie away in what happens or why, but its an interesting story.

if you like intrigue, using the brain to think about what is saying and you like a story in a film, then i would get this. if you want humans vs. aliens and big explosions, and don't want to engage brain, then skip it.
