PostPosted: Mon Dec 22, 2003 9:51 pm    Post subject: My long, frustrating journey...

So, I bought a blue, X-milled Bushmaster off Ebay for $300 shipped and some change. I did just like any average Joe would. I began playing with dipswitches and such. Soon, my frame had a hair trigger with the ghetto magnet mod on it and I was able to "sweet spot" the trigger to fire doubly fast.... or so I thought.

Actually, my board fried and was put into permanent turbo mode. Argh!!! Anywho, I was forced to install the 2K3 Chaos SO board. Darn the luck. Yes, I could have bought the Chaos chip cheaper, but I hate dipswitches and it's a pain with Dye '03 stickies.

So, I'm trying to chrono my Bushy. For some odd reason, it averages 52 fps at 250 psi. Not cool, I say.
I readjust the LPR and HPR. I lube the ram super well. I even took it to the local pro shop to take a look. His suggestion was to increase the dwell due to differeing solenoid mfr. specifications. I got it up to 103 fps. NOW WE'RE GETTING SOMEWHERE!!!! not

So, I figure it's a good time to go home, tear it all down, give it a good cleaning, and relube the regs before shipping it off to ICD. Lo, and behold, I discovered the LPR piston and reg seat are missing.

I bought this gun.... excuse me, marker... used off Ebay with the assurance that it works. It works alright, but I can throw paint harder than this thing shoots. I have a tourney next Sunday and a new piston being overnighted from Shocktech.

The moral of the story:

When available, shll out the extra bucks for a third party service to inspect and test the gun before you buy it. It will sav e you some heartache and cash along the way.

Yeah, I'm not complaining TOO badly. It's still a far cry better then the E99 I parted out to buy the Bushmaster.

Chao, in answer to your question, the only advantage I saw on the SDhocktech piston is that it uses 2 orings instead of one. If I'd had the money, I would have bought an entire new LPR, instead. The $20 price tag was what made the difference.

It should be coming in today. I had it overnighted, just in case.

**edit**
Got my new piston in. I'm such a newb. The old LPR piston was still in there, but was hidden in a layer of what appeared to be Vaseline. I went for broke, tore the whole gun apart, wiped everything clean, and put everything back together with the new piston installed. I stepped out on my back porch to test it. I saw a group of deer in the field and decided, why not? There is now a white-tailed deer with a pink hiney running around in the wild. Shoots like a dream!

Yeah, and the piston was really boogered up for some odd reason. I tore the whole gun apart, cleaned it thoroughly (found metal shavings in it... cringe), lubed it all with white lithium grease, installed the Shocktech piston, and did a test-fire into a thicket off my back porch with no problems.

No lie, a deer jumped up and took off with 2 bright pink spots on its hindquarters!
