need to hook up the throttle linkage rods, clean out the tank then put fuel to it. once i do that i need to figure out how to hook up the MSD box. then theoretically it should start and run.

Be fore i do all that though I need to remove the rest of the carpet and install my new carpet so the heater/ac blower box can go back in. then i can hook up the heater hoses and seal the cooling system. the i can add some coolant for a first start up. probably should figure out what kind of electric fan i want to go with or if i just want to stick the mech fan back on...if there is room for it....motor sits pretty close to the radiator.

so there are still some things to accomplish before she goes "vroooom". plus i'm still waiting on my header from Japan, but i could slap on the stock exhaust manifold if i need to just for the first starting. i bet that'll be loud.

oh, and don't forget to put the coffee can on exhaust so you can be cool like all the other rice burners...

that was a joke.

but seriously, what kind of exhaust will you be running? going to install the cats, and a free flowing exhaust like a 50 or 60 series Maxflow? i don't think you should go any lower since you are only running a 4 banger. my gear head friends always use, when applicable a MSD box, but i never know how to hook them up. granted it should be a plug and play setup, but your not running bowtie power, so it is obviously not just a throw it in and go.

does the fuel tank have a liner? best way i know of cleaning it is fill it with water, throw some rocks in it and shake. the rocks with peal off the liner, the water collects it and you just pour it out a couple of times to remove it.

usually when I clean a gas tank i put a couple gallons of coleman white gas in it maybe a handfull of mothballs if i think there is gunk stuck to the inside of the tank. slosh it all around throughly and pour it out.

the MSD is not quite plug and play, but hooking it up isn't much different than installing it on any other carb'd car.

exhaust will likely be headers to 2.5" with a small 12" section of flex pipe after the header into a Flowmaster 2.5" delta flow center in/out, i forget if it's a 40 or 50 series or what exactly. Not sure about a tip. i may just do a turn down on exit or a small polished tip of somekind. don't want the tip to be a focal point.

i would think that 2.5" is a little big for a 4 banger. i have that on my Ford 4.6L, but it is your vehicle. i would think that 2.25" is more apt, but finding mufflers in that size IS more diffcult. won't ever say to change something cause of what i think.

as my friend and mechanic, he personally hates flex tube, but why are you using it? don't have a pipe bender? that part of the exhaust going over/under a difficult part? creating exhaust can be an art form, as wella barrel full of headaches. though, my mechanic is the welder, so he can tig up a clean custom exhaust given the right materials.

i'm thinking more of the Japanese vehicle to the MSD, not anything than carb or american vehicle.

the flex pipe is used to reduce vibration through the system and releve stress from the rest of the system as the engine comes in and out of load. without a flex pipe there is unessecary stress on the exhaust manifold, pipe hangers and joints.

To say 2.5" pipe is big for a 4 cylinder is a little broad. I know many 4 cyls with up to 3" exhaust because it was the best choice and produced the best dyno results. Depends greatly on the displacement, whether it is N/A or forced, nitrous or not etc....essentially, how much air do you need to move?
2.5" pipe is being used because i am not using mandrel bent pipe, so the pipe is going to pinch down to about 2.25" as it makes it's way over the rear axle, your pipe is only as big as it's most narrow point. If I was going forced induction specifically if I were turbo charging, I would use 3" pipe for sure as the Turbo charger will create it's own inescapable exhaust environment and need as much room as possible to expell spent exhaust pressure to continue to spin up freely. To understand this more clearly, take a hairdrier (put it on cool) and put your hand over the outlet. fan will slow and in a turbo environment make less boost.

oh, no, i know about the free flowing aspect for exhaust, and you do know what you are doing. but what i am getting at, is that there are times when people use the biggest exhaust thinking that biggest equals the best. for my truck, i bought Summit headers(which they sent me Pace Setter headers- real nice) and a summit exhaust. its a straight shoot, 2 into one, the left turn before the wheel. but that is also prebent tubing, that my friend put together. since i was also using existing hangers, it has the flex joints for loads.

with that, truck placement and car placement for exhaust is two different animals. i didn't have to deal with clearance of the rear, or crazy bends to clear any of the driveline. i understand the point of continuous ID. my friend did a custom 4 into 1 exhaust on this 500hp 68 Mustang. beautiful car, and a beautiful exhaust. the owner of the car throws money at his toys($25,000 motor after the work). the exhaust was near precision, but the body guys flattened the exhaust after the paint and body work, so the heads can clear. basically destroying the flow of the exhaust. so the car now has serious flow problems and hasn't run well since the body and paint work.

Here are a couple new pics:

Fuel is now hooked up. Found a couple barbs at the JY that did the trick!

Headers showed up with collector. The flange on the headers is the same as my stock 18RC flange so it bolts straight up to the factory exhaust. May not use the collector right away. Great green paint. Rolling Eyes Mounting flange is drilled for 8mm studs, so I'll need to drill those out before mounting.
