Since 1998 Mr. Green ha ha made you think I was camping for the first time ever.

Nope, I'm a seasoned back packer and an Eagle Scout. This weekend we are taking my 6-year old on her second camping trip. This one is w/ Girl Scouts. Last week was her first camping trip w/ some friends. It was primitive camping and she was more than happy and for some reason excited to crap in the woods Rolling Eyes

Any who, now that I know she likes it we are going to get more into it. Any of y'all camp on a regular basis?

A fellow Eagle Scout! Did you ever get the chance to go to Philmont? We managed to do the hardest trek option out there.

I was very much into Camping when in scouting, but have since been way to busy to get back around too it. I also want to get back into scouts and become a leader. As soon as i'm done with school i want to start camping again, but then again, work will probably take that away since i will be traveling 50% of the time.

Glad to hear your daughter is enjoying it! Should make for some fun getaway and very memorable moments.

I was a First Class scout but stopped scouts cause the other guys in it were..well..bad words and i just didnt get along with them and they made it un-enjoyable for me.

But the time that I was in, we did alot of "ruff-and-tuff" camping. The best one was when we hiked 90 miles in 2 days in the Adirandack Mt.'s. It was pretty awsome

Nope, never made it to Philmont. I had a chance to go w/ a troop I did not belong to but that just didn't sound fun to me.

I did however go to Florida Sea Base twice. Talk about fun Boy Scout camp!! Florida keys...what?! Oh and one of the conselors there was such a cutie...about 6ish years older than me at the time...dang Very Happy

If you like backpacking, you'd love Philmount! If you ever get the chance to go again i'd recommend it. Although it wouldn't be as fun with a group of people you didn't know.

Ever thought about starting up an adventure group? Now that sounds like a blast.

That might be the thing to do as Kori gets older. I know the Explorer Scouts exist which is a comingling of Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts in some regards.

Regardless, I'm going to get the kid into hiking too. I put one of my internal frame weekend packs on her back yesterday. The darn thing was almost as tall as here. It was really funny.

haha, that's great.

Yea, Adventure Scouts is along the same lines as what you described but they one do the more extreme scenarios i believe, like whitewater rafting, climbing, long treacherous hikes, etc.

I think Half-dome is only a day hike, if i remember. I was there when i was about 12 but don't quite remember if we just went to the base or if we could have continured on. Don't take the mule trail, will take forever because of all the switchbacks. if you really want to see a view you have to climb half-dome, which i would love to do one of these days, my climbing equipment is getting dusty.

Ha another fellow climber. I actually got all my gear and rope out a few months ago.......I had to tie off on the roof :D. The roof slope is so steep that I could not stand up there. I hadn't used any of that equipment in 9-10 years. I wouldn't use anything for real climbing anymore but for roof work its perfet!
