Here's my acl sob story....
Torn my R acl and cartilage playing college soccer back in '97. Had patellar tendon method in early '98. Recovery took 10 months. Then torn cartilage (soccer again) in '03. Quit soccer. Ever since then it's felt crappy; swelling, pain, rice krispy noises, etc... always figured I should have it looked at again, but I didn't want to pay my deductible. So I've just dealt because I can still skate, ski, and paintball (which hurts the worst of the three, but it's too fun to quit).

Well.... I tore my L acl this January playing hockey. Had the surgery April 15th. Recovery has been great, I skated for the 1st time yesterday at 11 weeks. So I figured, deductible has been met, why not get an MRI to see what's going on with my R knee? Turns out, I don't have an ACL in my R knee anymore. It was there in '03, now it's not. Apparently it disappeared without me knowing, realizing, or feeling it - which is just wierd. Never felt a pop or tear like the other 2 times, but it is not there.

So I'm scheduled for R acl surgery this Thursday, July 1.

Anyone else have acl stories to share? Let's hear 'em! Then we can all have a group cry.

Never torn it but about a month ago(I know it doesn't compare) I sprained my ACL and it still isn't healed. It is very painful for a sprain so I can't imagine what yours feels like.

Tore my left MCL about a year and a half ago when my BIL fell on it. First time I have ever puked in pain. MRI said it was a full width tear with a femoral stress fracture. Brother in law is a fairly sizable guy.... anyway, the orthopod said not to worry, no surgery, no brace. Just take it easy and it'll heal in about 8 weeks. Well, shoulda taken it easy. 42 weeks later, it finally quit hurting. Still aches if I walk more than about five miles in a day.
