myself: i am a toll collector/bridge operator. i sit/stand in a booth, people come up and give me money, i thank them and also, raise & lower my bridge so that commercial, pleasure and sport fishing boats can come through to get to the Atlantic ocean. certainly not a a glamorous job, the hours suck(a revolving shift, some bridges are open 24 hours-shifts of 8 hours, working 5 days off for 3, then changing from 3pm-11pm to 7am-3pm to 11pm-7am weekly in that order, the other bridges operate at 9-10 hour shifts 6am-3pm to 3pm-12am & 6am-4pm to 4pm-2am), but it affords me plenty of time off 3-4 days off being alone so no co-workers to hear any body noises and such, able to do what i want(i bring guns to work on when i do midnight shifts and get paid for it) with in reason.

so tell me your vocation.

I am the Assistant Director od Resale (food services) at The Beach Waterpark. I make orders, hire/fire people and supervise the supervisors of the food stands. It's not bad at all; the lifeguards are hot, and while the wage is measly, I usually am able to work 55 hours a week, allowing me to buy lots of bushmasters! I do it during the summer, but other than that I am a student at The University Of Cincinnati.

I am a heavy equipment operator. I run asphalt equipment, dirt moving equipment, cranes, you name it. My work schedule varies according to the weather and the season. From late Spring to late Fall, I average about 70 hours a week. From early to late Spring and late Fall to early Winter, I average about 35 hours a week. In the remaining time I average right around zero. Nights, days, weekends, whatever the schedule calls for.

yeah holidays and anytime? my bridges are only closed on Christmas day. i've even watched about 10 different firework displays from the top of my bridge on the Fourth of July. it sucks, but holiday pay makes up for it. because of this recent blizzard on the easy coast, i got to work a double, in the snow. another benefit of my job. i am considered emergency personal. state of emergency, a cop can pull me over, and i get to tell him, that i have to go to work(boats and the Coast Guard need to be able to enter/exit the inter-coastal waterway), and i won't be getting a ticket.

Project Engineer. Work for a small company of about 40 people. 95% of the work we do is for the Glass industry. We design control systems for the furnaces and working end of flat glass, fiber glass, etc. Typical 40 hour work week, but not always in the office. Once i am done with school next semester i will be Traveling about 40-50% of the year; all over the world. Actually spent my thanksgiving in China. Pretty cool gig for only being 21. We get some nice bonus pay when out of the office, $50 a day for domestics, $100 a day for foreign. I spent 2 1/2 weeks in China and got $900 bonus for being there on thanksgiving and $900 for that Friday, so if you want to calculate that out be my guest, it made for a nice bonus. Had to work like hell to catch the school work up before the end of the semester though. Still pulled straight A's, so can't complain. I belive Russia or back to China will be my next stop after May. For now i just get thrown around on all the jobs helping out the main engineer since i travel with school.

I'm a civil engineer specialized in Traffic Engineering. I design traffic signals, run traffic signal, adjust speed limits on roads as needed, and alot of other things. However, I think the most important thing I do is to decide where and when Cow Crossing signs get to be used. Yehaw!

I'm a part time automotive tech at Farm'n'Fleet! I do oil changes, tires, batteries, etc... Pay isn't fantastic, but I've always loved working on cars & work levels my head out after class. Currently going to school full time at Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois & pursuing a Chem major w/ a business emphasis. Hoping to do some anodizing research projects in the near future =)

I currently work in the IT Department for a law firm located in Redwood City, CA. Pay is decent but the level of stress is pretty high. =(

I am a Network Admin for a medium sized school district. I'd have to agree with the stress level Tz
