Hi all, I'm new here, obviously.

I haven't "balled" in probably 15 years, back when my Mags were the thing to have. Damn shame I don't have them now.

Anyway, my daughter got into paintball last year with some friends, and I'm thinking that old dad needs to roll out one weekend and spank some teenage tail. So I started tossing around the pb forums, and some of them are pretty ridiculous. PbNation is a sausage fest full of acne covered kids that know more about fleshlights than paintball. TechPB seems to be the same, but with some anal mods. MCarterBrown is a bunch of yahoos about my age, but with serious penis envy. Hope you guys are better. I remeber the ICD mechs, but I'm kind of looking to get a little more horsepower for my buck.

I need something that I can tune once, beat the hell out of, lube up and toss in the bag. What do you guys reccommend? I'm not looking for some glitzy wall hanger, I need a production machine. Throw them out there, and any hints/mods/tricks I'll listen to.

First off, welcome to ICDO! And for being out of the game for 15 years, I'm surprised at how accurate your descriptions of some of the other forums are.

Now, as far as your question: are you looking for an electronic? Mechanical? As far as set and forget, fir an electro I would recommend an 08 ego. They can be had semi-cheaply, and truly are tanks.

I'm probably not one to talk to about mechanical markers, but there are some mech afficanidos around here that will get you sorted out.

What is your daughter shooting?

hey now, those pbn kids taught me things to do with a pringles can that you wouldn't believe!

How much money are you looking to spend?

Glad to have you around Andy. I'm sure you'll find enough penis envy, acne, jock strap pics and Alzheimer's around here once you hang for a bit.

But to address your question.

I know this is ICD-Owners and it might seem out of left field, but you should consider picking up an Automag. I know some people would back me on this. Mag's are fairly simple to keep running good and they are still relevant to paintballers today. Yes, you will have to pull the trigger for each shot, but the overall maintenance is very minimal.

But yes, once you probably hit the fields again you will realize the dominance of the electronic firing modes and ramping. If you need to keep up with the brats out on the field and you want something cheap, I'd say pick up a Promaster.
The Promaster might be the best option is my opinion because it already has eyes, different firing modes, and Autococker barrel threading. Those beneficial traits are what some of the Bushmasters and BKO's lack. And I've found that my Promaster needs very minimal maintenance too.

I've got a gift for reading people. I'm actually looking for an electro, mechs are nice, but if they are decent, they cost an assload.

Ego? really? Are they that much better for the price, or are you a fanboy? Yes, I picked the "fanboy" up off PBN.

Daughter is shooting a Promaster with some decent upgrades, or so the guys at the field tell me. She's pretty decent, but like most teens, a little too cocky.

Welcome to ICDO. If these loonies get out of line, let me know. Wink In all actuality, this is the best group of guys on the internets that you can find.

These guys have good things to say. If FGB (fungunzbuff) is a fanboy of anything, it is the bushmaster. The guy is packing a collection of about 50.

I am a freestyle guy, but they can be difficult for a first electronic marker. I agree with eeyore, the promaster is a good choice. They shoot great, they are easy to tune, and they are fun.

eeyore, maloneoni, thanks for the advice.

Trust me, I know my way through a Mag pretty well, but I'm old and lazy, and those mechanical trigger pulls make my arthritis act up. Wink

Promaster sounds like a pretty decent deal, guess I'll buy one and find out. hell, I can buy 3 promasters for an ego price.

FGB, 50? dang, son, do you have a girlfriend?

Looks like the eBay price runs from about $100 for a Promaster to $120 for a Lasoya (?) PM to $150 for a Lasoya with a hopper to, holy hell, $600 for a setup? Christ on a Vespa, that dude is wacked out of his mind!

Can't go wrong with a Promaster. Gave this one to my son for Christmas.

He said it shoots alot like my Etek3 with the upgrades on it.

ebay prices can be all over like that, we have seen people trying to charge 5-10x what a marker is worth on there, and then sometimes you find a good deal. I have seen several mostly stock ones go for below 100 on PBN and ones in good conidition with few to many ups go for 100-150.

Also, from what I heard he was right about the ego8, very solid and reliable, more so than most of its later generations. There are other mid range type markers you could get also, depending on your price range, like an etha or drone dx.
