Hey guys, i got a Crossfire 68/3000 steel tank in a trade...i have a crossfire 48/3000 and i was under the assumption that the 68/3000 would be bigger and hold more air. The tanks are basically the same size and the cover for the 48 fits perfect on the 68...will the 68 hold more air? just a little confused cause i thought since one is 48ci and the other is 68ci the 68ci would be noticeably bigger. Thanks

The 68ci tank should be noticeably larger than the 48ci. The ci refers to the volume (aka larger) and the psi is just what it is rated to hold.

Here are some pics of the tanks the 68 looks a little bit wider and a little bit shorter but if its 68ci wouldnt it be 20ci larger overall? just looks almost the same to me lol Thanks for all comments

The 47ci tank is aluminum and the 68ci tank is alloy steel.

More aluminum is required to withstand the pressure per internal square in than steel.

What I mean is that the 68 will have thinner walls than the 47 since the steel is structurally stronger than the alluminum. That internal volume on the 47 will be less than the 68 but the outside might appear the same. Also, the 47 tank is likely heavier than the steel because of the additional material.

Here is a link to a thread that may help further explain this.

Hope that is helpful.

That looks about right. Even though the tank is shorter, the width will more than make up for that.

As I recall, its the reg itself not just the burst discs. I would say ultimately, not to risk it, you don't want it to blow up Smile
