PostPosted: Sat May 24, 2008 4:37 pm    Post subject: Chaos 04 Voltage, Amp and uf questions

im tried using a Chaos 04 board to run an MQ valve

that didnt work, so i tried a Capacitor at 2200 uf, and there was no difference in the sound of the MQ valve when i pulled the trigger

so im guessing that the board is controlling the amount of power/juice that goes to the noid

so would anyone know how much Voltage, Amp and uf the boards use or put out?

if there is no way around these numbers, ill have to give up on the chaos and my mq valve and use a yuck......ion board...nooooooooooo

The chaos board use a voltage regulator. What you need to do is bypass this voltage regulator so you get the full 9v instead of 5v.

mA doesn't really matter, it will pass the amount of current it needs for the load (solenoid, capacitor).

uF is a reference to the number of Farads the capacitor can store. It is really only important when dealing with the capacitor.

So what I would assume, is that you can take a MOSFET such as an IFR510. The IFR10 has three leads off of it. One is the gate, which is what you will solder the gate to the lead going out from the board to the solenoid. The drain will go to complete the loop and the source lead goes to the -9V (Ground, aka battery terminal).

I think that should do it. You may need to solder two of them in series to operate a pancake noid to it's fullest though.

OK AWESOME!!!!! so its like a little pilot valve for the battery

takes the pulse from the board then pretty much opens the power from the battery directly to the noid....correct?

could i also put the cap on the bat if i wanted more juice to hit the mq?

That's exactly what it does. It takes a pulse from the board and uses that to send the full voltage through the drain and source leads. If you want to wire a cap in there it should be done between the drain and solenoid.

At least that how I believe it would work. I haven't actually done this. I have for example done two IFR510's in series and I know that works for sure.

I have about 20 IFR510's right now. Never been used. They are cheap on eBay.

*Edit* Read this on Warpig:

www.warpig.com/paintba...dex2.shtml

This states that you may only need the pin that goes high from the board to the gate. That means you may need to connect the other side of the solenoid to the +9V while the source is connected to the -9V (Ground).

I believe so. You would have to search around. I don't know what the specs are on a IFR510.

amazing.............how to find a board that can do .25 increments

hey how would a Cap help lowering dwell times?
like how they help in other boards running mqs

Basically a capacitor just stores a charge. That charge being of a certain voltage and rated in farads. Essentially the capacitor collects this charge while the capacitor isn't being drawn upon. Since the "speed" of electricity is incredibly fast, recharge of a capacitor used for paintball purposes can be summarized as instantaneous.

In essence it bumps up the available current/voltage that the load can instantaneously use such as the operation of a pancake solenoid.

This is like lifting a bar full of weights above your head. The initial lift action takes a good amount of strength, but once you have it up it is easier to keep in place. Having an abundance of initial energy/strength will help you get that bar up faster.

This is true for activating solenoids.
