for the longest time i have stayed away from kits. i have enough barrels, of various sizes for my needs, but since my hiatus(2 years), i have found that paint has shrunk, to even roll out of a .684. granted at the height of my play, .688 was standard and i never needed that.

so, i'm thinking of getting a kit. now, i love my Dye and Lapco barrels (about 16 total between the 2 brands), but i don't want to go chasing bigger paint(stores don't like me opening up boxes and sizing them). now, i don't care for CP barrels and don't even mention a Freak kit. not only the SP thing, but the problems with inserts sticking and the questions bores.

so what is there out there, and where are the links to them? not going to get it now, but look at it getting it for the spring summer. so show me what you think.

I know you said no Freak, but I use a Deadlywind Fibur barrel. It is a nice CF barrel that takes freak inserts. I love CF barrels. I have like 4 stiffi's.

But other than that, just buy more backs for dye UL's in the sizes you need.

J&J - jjperformance.com/

also lapco makes the snap shot with different sized backs, im sure if you needed it in ICD threads they could get you them.

I have a cp kit I use and like

Dye UL's with backs
Redz pepper sticks

theres a lot, I really still only use 1 piece barrels, I have a bigshot on my PM that I like, and Armson stealth on my Bushmaster, and they all work fine.

CF are nice(i haven't used one since the 32* CF way back in 99), but weight isn't an issue.

buying UL backs can be expensive, but is the easiest, since that's what a majority of my barrels are.

but still wanting to see what's out there.

I like my old scepter kit (front loading inserts, and not the new style). Doesn't shoot clean well, but shoots really well. Smallest insert I have found is .684, but the old tape mod takes care of that.

I have been using sly carbon fiber kit for about a year now. I don't even bother sizing the paint. I just shoot everything through a six-eight-three.

Even though you mentioned you don't like the CPs, they are making .679 barrel now.

Oh, and the deadly wind is nice. You can get brass inserts from other companies, so you bypass the smart parts thing.

I picked up a nice, used J&J Edge kit a few years back on Pbn for $70. It's treated me well. It's a ceramic coated aluminum so it shoots clean okay. But the backs are only 4" and I've read that a control bore back of at least 6" is preferred. J&J has also made some new, smalled backs to accomodate smaller paint these days. You won't be able to find any of those used so you'll have to buy those new. I've been meaning to pick up their .679 and .676 sizes for a while but haven't gotten around to it.

Ty Mcneer over on MCB has some freak compatible brass inserts if you want to go down the CF route but not buy the freak kit. His doesn't have a lot of sizes, but I'm with Maloneoni here, I pretty much only use my .682 these days. You could probably just get a .680 insert and be fine with that.

Here's the sale thread link for the Mcneer inserts on MCB.
