Finished building my new workbench this past weekend, now I have some place to work besides the kitchen table.....

Still need to get some 5" bolts to mount the vise and some more pegs for the board.

I plan on adding a light and a powerstrip to it eventually.
15 2x4x8's
1 sheet plywood
2 boxes 3" screws
1 box 1 5/8" screws
$50

Vise: $24

Saw this over on the nation. That's a really good price! Is the plywood top sold enough to work?

Even if the top is not solid enough, a piece of 3/4 CD plywood can be had for 25 dollars.

took a total of 3-4 hours which I split over a cpl days cause I would just work for an hour or two when I got home each day.

The 1/2" plywood work surface seems really solid, remember there are 2x4's every 12" or so under the plywood......

Also I am going to add a 1/4" sheet of something to the work top that has a smooth surface so then it will be 3/4" thick.

Here is the article if you want to do your own...

Look for smooth Fiberglass reinforced plastic. Comes in 4x8 sheets, is nearly indestructible and cleans up great.

will do, I have tech mats to use when doing paintball work so I am not too worried about things rolling away from me on a smooth surface. the FBG plastic u mentioned should be perfect....assuming it is easy to cut, right now the circular saw I have is wormdrive but I have access to others.

edit: Also for those looking to do one the only "special tools" you might need are a circular saw and a Mitre saw, I would not have wanted to do this by hand. Otherwise it also helps to have a drill/driver set so you dont have to keep switching from drill bit to screw bit.

A table saw would have been awesome for the plywood but I have a set of guides I can clamp to the wood for the circular saw to get a prefect cut.
